THE BOSTON COMICS ROUNDTABLE SIGNING AT THE MYP!!!
This Saturday (12/3) and Sunday (12/4), the Million Year Picnic is delighted to host members of the Boston Comics Roundtable who contributed to various issues of BOSTON POWERS, the collection of superhero comics for kids set in and around Boston.
FINAL Comix Creation Classes for Kids in 2020!!!
The Million Year Picnic comic shop is still closed to browsing, but that doesn’t mean we’re not working! We’re doing curbside pick-ups, free local deliveries for orders over $15, and shipping all over the country! AND, our friend Jason Wiser is offering THE FINAL COMIX CREATION CLASS FOR KIDS IN 2020! After this class, there will be NO MORE CLASSES in 2020!
The final Level 2 class will run Monday-Friday, August 17-21, 2020, time TBD. Classes will be recorded if you miss a day! We suggest taking Level 1 as a prerequisite, but it’s not required.
These classes run 5 days a week, 1 hour a day through a Zoom link provided by the teacher for kids age 8 and older. Students can participate through an Internet-connected laptop or tablet, and materials are typically paper, pencil, and pen. All work is optional, but kindness is mandatory!
We are offering this class as a Pay-What-You-Can deal (which includes free). To register, either send the suggested $50 fee (that’s per household, so 1 kid or 5 kids, it’s the same price) to the Million Year Picnic comic book store via PayPal to blanton7772000@yahoo.com (but do not email this address as it’s not monitored; you can also use the PayPal button below) OR, simply email millionyearpicnic@yahoo.com to let us know you’d like to register but can’t afford to pay at this time.

Jason Wiser is a Harvard Instructor of Comics, Animation, and Game Development. His comics work has been published in the Boston Globe, his animation has appeared on the Disney TV show “Greek” and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and his published games include the award-winning cooperative card game for kids “Monsters in the Elevator” (www.YayaPlay.com/MITE).

Lillian Melcher is an illustrator living and working in Boston, MA. Her first book The Adventures of Alexander Von Humboldt, written by Andrea Wulf, is a graphic work of non-fiction exploring the early life of naturalist Alexander Von Humboldt and his contributions to environmentalism. Lillian graduated in 2016 from Parsons School of Design with a degree in illustration. She has been honored with the SCBWI Student Illustrator Scholarship for her picture book portfolio. Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) was an intrepid explorer and the most famous scientist of his age. His restless life was packed with adventure and discovery, but his most revolutionary idea was a radical vision of nature as a complex and interconnected global force that does not exist for the use of humankind alone. His theories and ideas were profoundly influenced by a five-year exploration of South America. Now Andrea Wulf partners with artist Lillian Melcher to bring this daring expedition to life, complete with excerpts from Humboldt’s own diaries, atlases, and publications. She gives us an intimate portrait of the man who predicted human-induced climate change, fashioned poetic narrative out of scientific observation, and influenced iconic figures such as Simón Bolívar, Thomas Jefferson, Charles Darwin, and John Muir. This gorgeous account of the expedition not only shows how Humboldt honed his groundbreaking understanding of the natural world but also illuminates the man and his passions.
Colin Cantwell Signing Saturday 13 April 2019
Colin Cantwell, creator and model builder of the original Star Wars Ships is appearing at Million Year Picnic on Saturday April 13th 12-2pm (12:30pm presentation).
Colin Cantwell is the original concept artist and model builder for all things that flew in the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope. His designs include the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Death Star, Star Destroyer, and others.
Saturday April 13th, Colin will meet fans at Million Year Picnic. The free event includes exclusive videos describing Colin’s interaction with George Lucas and his work on Star Wars. Also featured will be an audience choice of videos showing his other iconic projects including his work on 2001, A Space Odyssey and War Games, as well as his being the Hal 9000 Computer that fed Walter Cronkite the progress of the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. This will be followed by an opportunity for fans to meet Colin, ask questions and share stories.
Autographs will be on sale for $25 and include a free print of either his original 1974 Star Wars concept art or his 1975 photos of the first Star Wars models. His website is https://colincantwell.com/
